That will be hilarious if Briles and Mora both turn them down. Charlie Strong now looks like a backup choice and it wouldn't surprise me if he takes his name out of consideration for just that reason.

This is all lining up for Texas to make another run at Saban, it seems.

I think so too. And now that he has lost two in a row, he's in quarterback transition and the team is not close to dominant, he could be ready to listen again.

Wasn't there a coach recently who said no, said no, then they went through all their other candidates and came back to their first choice with a dump truck full of money? Or am I just thinking of Saban with Alabama?

    Chip Kelly to the Eagles.

I truly think, if you hooked Nick Saban up to a lie detector today it would say he has no intention of listening to any offers from Texas.

His agent on the other hand, would probably be more than happy to listen.

I don't think it will be Saban. I think Texas' Hail Mary offer will be to Fisher if they haven't hired Briles or someone else in the next week.

Urban Meyer kind of did that when he went to Ohio State:

That story I linked was published Nov. 24. He was hired on Nov. 28.

Kelly last year turned down the Eagles shortly after the bowl game and then about two weeks later it came back around to him, or he saw the sanctions coming and decided that maybe it was a good time to go.

I think it was all the weird stuff Kelly wanted, the additional staffers etc. that the Eagles first balked at. Kelly was smart, too many successful college coaches get an offer from the NFL and just jump when there is no point in going if you aren't going to have the tools you need to be successful.

I'm a little surprised the Eagles balked initially. That's a pretty damn good franchise that has a history of spending money when it wants someone. I think Kelly may have learned from watching Carroll, who turned down offer after offer before getting one that he finally liked.

Penn State has reportedly offered the job to Al Golden:

Miami's Rivals site has it, too, and says Golden's reps were working out final details with PSU officials Friday afternoon. Their story is behind firewall.

A much better choice than Schiano, I would think.
