That wouldn't be a bad move. Chad Morris wouldn't be bad either.

Seems fewer than the usual number of openings at BCS conference schools this year. Maybe everyone changed last year.

Last year, we had new coaches at Arkansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Purdue, Cal, Colorado, Tennessee, Auburn, NC State, Boston College, Texas Tech, Cincinnati (and maybe a couple of others I can't recall at the moment). This year, it's been USC, Washington, Texas, Penn State and Louisville. Maybe others will open up soon.

Been trying to figure where James Franklin or Chad Morris might end up, but I don't see too many great options at the moment. Which is fine, they can certainly stay put and wait for the right time and place.

James Franklin to Penn State, according to folks on West End in Nashville.

    Edit: Tennessean running with it.

Whenever I hear assistants who were hot names and didn't get a job because "they didn't interview well", that always struck me as code for white NFL owners who didn't want to hire a minority.

We hear this about Charlie Strong but, for years, it was also said about Tony Dungy, Sherm Lewis (who never got the HC shot) and Norm Chow. Although, given Chow's record at Hawai'i, perhaps the reluctance had some merit.

Is there anything to the RichRod to Louisville rumor?

All this says is that they offered it to him. Says nowhere he accepted it.

According to FootballScoop.com. I'm gonna need a little better than that. So should the Tennesseean.

Penn State must have been impressed by Franklin's rape-covering-up skills.

I thought The Tennessean, as a Gannett paper, was not allowed to cite anonymous sources, or repeat others' citation of anonymous sources. Or have they relaxed that policy lately?

Anyway, The Tennessean offices are literally two miles from the Vanderbilt athletic complex.

Yes, they most certainly should do better.

Seeing as how "didn't interview well" has also been said about Chris Petersen, Jim Fassel, Bill O'Brien, Houston Nutt, Rick Dennison, Gus Malzahn, Mike McCoy, Gary Patterson and Tom Gamble when they were passed over for various jobs (according to a quick Google search), that might not always be accurate.

One trend regarding "didn't interview well" is it tends to get used for coaches with limited experience interviewing for head coaching jobs. That's one reason you used to see it said so often about black coaching candidates -- they usually never got as far as the interview process, so when they did, they were nervous and hesitant and didn't know what the interviewer was looking for. Therefore, they actually did not interview well.

That's actually one of the most positive effects of the Rooney Rule -- even if the interview is merely intended to satisfy the rule, it gets black candidates into the process and in front of owners and GMs and lets them see what the interview is all about so they can improve their interviewing skills. Maybe the next time they get an interview they'll be ready and blow people away.

Very often, guys who don't interview well earlier in their careers get better at it. It's a skill that improves with experience.
