Unless you are a born-n-bred diehard, waiting for a job doesn't seem like a great move. It may never come. Besides, you could always go back later if the opportunity presented itself.

RE: Bielsma. Guy has gone to three straight Rose Bowls. That's the equivalent of Super Bowls in Big Ten country. I doubt the Big Ten is going to win any national championships until we get the SEC Republican shrills to make good on their threats and seceed from the union. So winning a Rose Bowl is about as good as it gets. Can't fathom leaving for Tennessee unless they offered him a king's ransom.

I read somewhere today that Bielema is making $2.64 million a year at Wisconsin in a deal that was extended recently through 2017. Nothing to put him in the poorhouse, obviously, but only fifth in the conference. behind Meyer ($4.3 million), Ferentz ($3.835 million through 2020), Hoke ($3.046 million) and Pelini ($2.875 million).

Given some of the ass-plunderings he has given one of them above him on the pay scale, and how another better-compensated coach has completely shit his pants in the last couple of seasons, it would only be natural for Bielema to clear his throat and wonder why he can't get compensated better than a middle of the road coach in the Big Ten after three straight Rose Bowl trips.

This loops back to the "waiting on a job" question, but I know there are some in Iowa who think Bielema is the one who will take over for Ferentz at some point. Played there and started his coaching career there, and the irrefutable evidence being that Bielema got a Tiger Hawk tattoo on his calf when he was a sophomore at Iowa, and he refuses to have it removed, both to the chagrin of Wisconsin people and to the blind optimism of Iowa people.

OK, so Wisconsin probably should give him a raise. How much time does he have left on his contract?

Aw, gotcha. Well, if he was unhappy should have asked for more. A contract is a contract.

Interesting stuff, but with all the money he's owed (and, to be fair, his past success leading the Hawkeyes), Ferentz isn't going anywhere for a while, losses to Central Michigan be damned.

And even if he leaves, would Bielema be that much of an upgrade?

    This Iowa grad says no.

Oklahoma State fans will go psychotic if Guny leaves for UT. I can't see him going though. As much money as that school/athletic department has.....if he does leave, it won't be for the money.

As far as Jones going to Colorado......it just doesn't make much sense. Why leave a school where you consistently contend in a BCS conference to a school that is at the bottom of a conference and will be for a foreseeable future?

Check me if I'm wrong Sandy, but I don't think the Big East will be guaranteed a spot under the new contract that starts in 2014.

    That's correct.

Well fuck me with a rusty spork.

I thought the Big East was guaranteed a BCS spot.

I shall dip my toes in the lake of fail.

If Jones takes the Colorado gig, he'll win 4-5 games next season and be considered a God. If he goes to a bowl game in year 2 or 3, he'll be worshipped.

If Colorado is promising to upgrade facilities, he can recruit there and he can win there. Colorado's problem has always been that it was unwilling to spend money. If Jones is hired, that perception goes away, almost immediately.

I don't know if Jones is a great coach. It's a lot easier to replace Brian Kelly than Jon Embree, but there are a lot of positives to take over a program that is at rock bottom.
