I wouldn't either. But he's not leaving to take half a team. Tennessee would be thrilled if Gundy took $4 million to be its actual head coach.

I don't think the three rung approach, as noted above, applies anymore.

You still have the campus god, but you got another layer between that and looking for a better gig.

I guess the best way to describe is "contentment." Well thought of but not worshiped, well-paid, but not highest-paid and wins just enough to keep all but the crazies at bay.

So when a opening comes up, at say a school like Tennessee that can throw another million at them, they just look and shrug it off. They might even go interview but if you're already making $3 million, why jump ship, and take on unreasonable expectations, for $500,000 or another million more.

That might sound crazy to turn down a million dollar raise, but it isn't much of a raise if you get a pink slip two or three seasons in.

Oh, I wasn't even considering that half a team thing as a legitimate suggestion.

Gundy can be had for the right price though. He may be an alum but he wont' be an OSU lifer.

It was not a legitimate suggestion. Only a pipe dream of hopes. Much like Jeff Fisher to anywhere in the NCAA ranks.

Jones turned down Purdue. Still hasn't accepted Colorado's offer.

That would make a lot more sense than Tennessee for recruiting purposes.

I don't like the sound of this.

Would this be a case of Mike Holder fucking up the best thing his athletics department has going or T. Boone Pickens and the good ol' 'Boys standing with the athletics director instead of the incorrigible coach?

If Gundy to Arkansas is true, and it appears to be, it surprises me a bit. With the kind of $$$ Oklahoma State has, I would have assumed he could have named his price to stay.

Maybe they're all tired of each other. Between Mike Gundy and T. Boone Pickens, there isn't a person I wouldn't be tired of.

But this vaults way up the list of available desirable coaching spots. All that cash, no academic standards and a wide-open conference that's there for the taking? Hell yeah.
