Yes. I think Bielema is a bad in-game coach who makes a ton of questionable decisions. We'll see how SEC fans like that.

Plus, without any ties to the south, I can't imagine he'll hit the ground running with recruiting.

Unless something really has gone sour between Bielema and the brass in Madison, the pride of Prophetstown, Ill., is crazy to do this. And Arkansas is crazy to hire him.

Dana Holgerson has connections to an NAIA school in Iowa.

Bad comparison since Stoops coached at Florida.

Saban did pretty well going from the Big Ten to the SEC, but Bret Bielema isn't Nick Saban.

Time will only tell. All depends on who replaces him. As a wisconsin fanboi, who just moved back to Madison a month ago, I can say this: there's a hell of a lot of unhappy Badgers right now. The Wisconsin fans I've talked to today have shown two general opinions:
    1. Getting Paul Chryst back would be great.
    2. Maybe Barry can coach the Rose Bowl.

If this hurts Wisconsin or not will depend on how good the next coach is. The transition from Alvarez to Bielma worked really well because Alvarez had a plan and executed it. Hopefully he has a plan for this, too.

I would not be stunned to see Alvarez come back if he's not satisfied with the candidates.

    Ding ding ding.

I think Arkansas would be better served trying to steal someone from the Big 12, if not an OC or DC from the SEC.

This carousel is spinning pretty fast ...

I figure Chryst will get the Wisconsin job. If not, I think Alvarez takes over unless Dave Doeren bolts NC State.

Not sure I buy the "can't recruit the South" line of thinking.

I see 11 kids from Florida on the Badger roster this year. Seems to me a that guy who can convince kids from Florida to spend four years in fucking Wisconsin is probably a pretty good recruiter.

Won a national championship his second year? The single greatest season in school history.

The Chizik era wasn't exactly all misery.

Assuming Strong takes the Tennessee job, it will be interesting to see if Petrino gets a job. I don't see him going to a school in a non-BCS conference.

Wisconsin would do well to take a long, hard look at the current staff for potential replacements. Anytime you have a successful program, there are normally a lot of good coaches, not just one or two.

While it's true that many people make good assistants and just aren't cut out to be head coaches, it's worth examining the people already there. I'm a believer in the notion, if you have a winning program, promote from within. If you are trying to change a losing program, go outside.
