    This.

He walks past a 13 foot statue of Alvarez every day walking to the office.

I also wonder how much second-guessing Bielema took after the MSU Hail Mary debacle (he gave MSU a 4th timeout) and not going for two vs OSU and PSU.

I think Arkansas is a harder job, especially because recruiting is awful. It is so isolate from the rest of the SEC in a state without much population.

Barry wants to win a fourth Rose Bowl. I fully expect him in the shades and his 1993 geometric design polo shirt, chomping gum in Pasadena.

Wouldn't be shocked. Truth is the assistants will do most of the coaching anyway. So if Barry wants to show up and do the press conferences and give a couple of speeches and mug for the cameras, fine.

It's not like the Badgers are going to suddenly come out in the run-and-shoot anyway.

I have no idea what to think of the Gus Malzahn hire.

I guess I can't complain unless Tennessee goes out and gets one of these guys.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Wisconsin admin had no idea Bielema was in talks and that their first inkling came when he told them he took the job.

If true, that certainly doesn't sound like a school and coach that were on good terms. Don't you at least give them a chance to match? Unless you're hell-bent on getting out of there.

Alvarez hasn't been on the sidelines in nearly a decade. I loved him as a coach and the job he did building that program back was nothing short of outstanding, but he's not necessarily the savior.

Does he want to come back, coach for a couple 6-6 seasons and see his reputation lessened? What does UW have in terms of talent returning? I guess that'll be the determining factor.

And if Chryst is hired away, won't Pitt have like six head coaches in a 3-year span?

Well, if you sign a guy to a contract extension, you shouldn't have to worry about him leaving everytime some other opportunity comes along. Otherwise, what's the point of having a contract in the first place?

I could see Alvarez coaching the Rose Bowl because it's real short notice, but not long term. Too much work. He'll hand pick an assistant or former assistant in due time.

Barry can do one game on the sidelines. He knows the personnel and everything requires his stamp anyway.

If I was Bielema, I wouldn't tell anyone at UW that I would be interviewing elsewhere. Never never never.

I don't make $3M but in "teevee", when you interview elsewhere, you don't tell a soul. For my current position, I met the hiring manager in a hotel halfway between the two cities. That way, I wouldn't get paraded around in front of the internal candidates I would beat out.

For jobs like this, you can't go back to Wisconsin unless it is to offer your resignation. Because you will likely be told to leave immediately. The days of staying on through the end of the season (as Alvarez did in '89 with ND) are over. Coaching is now every day of the year.

I imagine Bret is sick of the shadow of Barry and also knows Wisconsin has peaked.

    Chryst says he's staying put.

Best they could do, which isn't much.
