No, supposedly Pat Dye did. AD Jay Jacobs played for Dye at Auburn in the early 80s.

Tennessee used to be one of the best jobs in the country ...

Texas needs to find that guy. How many guys are on that level? I think it's Saban and Meyer and that's it. There are plenty of other great coaches, but none on the level of those two.

Saban wasn't on that level when he got to Alabama.

There are other guys out there who can get to that level.

Why hasn't Tennessee talked to Sonny Dykes?

Or has he turned them down too? I'm having a hard time keeping track.

He turned around downtrodden LSU and Michigan State programs, then coached with some success in the NFL.

Saban had a national title... He did go to another level by turning around Bama as quickly as he did...

I think it's the same thing with Meyer. What he did at Ohio State this year is just insane.

Gruden, Strong, Gundy, Fedora...at what point does being so far down the list really put a dent into the hiring of whatever coach they end up with?
You get the impression that the longer this thing goes, the bigger splash the hire will have to make. Otherwise, you end up with Derek Dooley II.

If it was today instead of mid-1990s does Saban get fired at Michigan State before he has his really good season to get to LSU? He was 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, and 6-6 in his first four seasons in East Lansing.

I have yet to see or hear anything that would lead me to believe Gruden will be doing anything other than MNF for the foreseeable future.
