Missed this when it happened, but next year's Southern Miss-Nebraska game shifts to Lincoln to become the Buyout Bowl. A shame Ellis Johnson can't be forced to watch while eating a jelly doughnut.

It was moved - for $2.1 million - to pay for his buyout. Which happened to be $2.1 million.

That's insane. But nothing in college sports surprises me anymore.

Who did Southern Miss get to replace Johnson? Or have they yet? Would be easy to slip through the cracks outside of Mississippi.

Not yet. They've supposedly been interviewing guys all weekend in New Orleans, with North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson (who was the other finalist last year) the front-runner going in. The rest of the guys are Division I offensive coordinators or I-AA/D-2 head coaches.

Why? Nine times out of 10, the Big East job will at least come with a higher salary because the Big East's TV deal, while it's a pittance compared to the SEC/Big Ten/Big 12/Pac-12 deals, does pay its schools a hell of a lot more than C-USA's.

In addition, it's not as though Conference USA is any more stable. The Big East is one step up the food chain, but they're both getting devoured in the end.

I really hope Tech goes after Kingsbury, but I doubt he leaves ATM.

Really? Tech is a pretty damn good first HC job. You win eight games there for two years and you can move up pretty quickly. I guess it might be a little tough to leave when ATM might be among the favorites to win the national title next year, but I still don't think that's reason enough to stay.

I get the sense that the names out there for Colorado aren't overly serious or that after Jonesgate, nobody is reporting anything. Not that DeRuyter or MacIntyre would be bad hires. I think both would be decent fits, but people were throwing out Dan Mullen and Dave Clawson over the weekend. Mullen is a decent coach, but the move still wouldn't make sense, then again neither did Bielema to Arkansas. Clawson seems like a reach.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about Jeff Tedford or maybe now that they have the money available that they offered to Jones, they can go after someone like Jack Del Rio or an NFL coach.

  11. He damn well better not. Go call Ruffin McNeill

Ruffin appears to be happy as head coach at his alma mater, East Carolina.
