Not sure. The other 2 names being tossed about are Kingsbury and Chad Morris (OC at Clemson)

I'm thinking Briles would cost a fortune to get out of Waco. Kingsbury could probably be had fairly cheap.

Kingsbury would be a no-brainer... So would Morris...

Interesting about Morris... RichRod was a coordinator at Clemson when he was offered the Tech job, before he turned it down to wait for WVU to open and then Tech hired Leach...

Briles is a good coach and I understand why Tech would want him, but I don't understand why they would dramatically overpay to get him.

I thought if Briles was going anywhere, it would have been to Arkansas. Not sure if they approached him before Bielema, though.

Avalanche-Journal says Morris and Kingsbury are atop the list:

If Morris gets the Texas Tech job, that will make three BCS conference coaches who were high school coaches less than 10 years ago (Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn being the others). Crazy.

Kingsbury and Morris would both be perfect hires for Tech.

Didn't realize til I read that story that Tech's QB of the future, redshirt freshman Michael Brewer, played for Morris in high school. Seems like a natural fit.

I read something yesterday that seemed to indicate that it is a foregone conclusion that if Chip Kelly leaves Oregon that Mark Helfrich will take over. That probably explains why his name wasn't mentioned too often for any of the openings.

Apparently, by Oregon state law, the university will have to interview a minority candidate before making a hire.

Also, interesting for Chris Petersen, who once again is mentioned for several top jobs and is likely to be staying put.

OK. If Chip Kelly leaves to go to another college, it will be fine because a college team can adapt to his 100 snaps or bust philosophy.

How will that work in the NFL?

Coaches are allowed to change their styles. I'd expect to see him run a hybrid like SF, Carolina or Washington. You already see a lot of hurry-up before the 4th quarter in the NFL in order to limit situational substitution - I just think he would adapt it a little so he would sit on a lead a little bit more than he does at Oregon.

The Patriots had a game this year where they ran 89 plays. That's higher than Oregon's average.

Five years ago the conventional wisdom was that the spread quarterbacks could never do it in the NFL. Now you have Newton and RG3 and a few others who can do parts of it in stretches (Kaepernick, I think Tannehill does some).

A Tech beatwriter was on the radio here in the Q yesterday and he was saying 90 percent of the Tech fanbase wants Kliff Kingsbury, and I don't blame them.

Why wouldn't they? I think he would do very well there and might be willing to hang around for awhile.

I would be uproariously happy if they got Kiingsbury.
