Sounds like his daughter was the real Promise Keeper in that family.

IIRC McCartney was well known for recruiting the LA gang set, and the uni colors may have even been a help there, and that's a lot of the reason Lawrence Phillips and the Police Blotter All Stars started showing up in Lincoln once Dr. Tom's program fell behind in the pecking order.

  4. Is there such a thing as obvious with a job like that? Seems like they have the power to go so many angles that nothing is a slam-dunk

You need someone with head coaching experience to weather that storm, so most big-name coordinators are out.
You need someone that isn't complete pie in the sky, so Saban/Kelly are out.
You need someone who brings some energy,
And finally, I think you need someone somewhat young that won't suffer from burnout/fatigue issues.

One guy who I think makes sense? Todd Graham. Yeah, the 6-6 wart at Pitt is there, but could have easily been 10-2 (four losses by four points or less). He seems to want nothing more than to move upwards, and the performances from past teams are there.

That would be a fucking absurd hire, almost as bad as Cheesedick at Auburn, unless Graham has Arizona State contending for a Pac-12 title soon.

Texas will pay $5 million for a coach. They can pull an NFL coach for that type of money. Two who I think would be great college coaches are Ken Whisenhunt and Marvin Lewis.

Todd Graham's "I'm-Smarter-Than-All-Ya'll" act would wear thin on Texas fans by about the second straight bootsing by OU.

  8. Still waiting on counter names.

I don't mind the Lewis suggestion too much. But why leave?

If he lasts a couple more years:

Gary Patterson would be a good hire for Texas, though he seems dug in at TCU.

If Mack hangs on for a year or two I can see Larry Fedora's name coming up if he's having success at UNC at that point.

Not saying he'd be the guy but he's relatively young, from Texas, pretty well-connected at the high school level and likes to run his offense wide open.

If it happens this year I'm not sure who it'll be. Chip Kelly's name will come up. Mike Riley probably will too. So will Patterson. Art Briles would probably have been mentioned if Baylor hadn't collapsed this year.

If he can get a decent D coordinator, Dana Holgorskullet wouldn't be a bad choice.
