And SC and Clemson did it as punishment for the bench-clearing brawl at the end of their game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tennessee make a move relatively quickly, especially if they're serious about wooing Gruden.

The best way to handle a firing was how Florida canned Zook several years back. They fired him with a few games left in the season, he stayed around to finish the season and it gave Florida a head start to start courting Urban Meyer. Coaches (Petrino is a notable exception) don't usually like talking to schools when the other coach hasn't officially been canned.

Could they even get Gruden before the end of the football season? The last MNF game is Dec. 22.

Sure. They might even like it. Name him the coach, let him finish the season on MNF. He'll spend a few days recruiting and then make references to the Vols on MNF, which will help as well...

    Chuckie,

The move from ESPN back to a team always goes smoothly.

    Regards,

    Bobby Valentine and Barry Melrose

I'd bet they'd go, if for no other reason than the extra practice time and exposure it'd give the program.

Is this your first year following college football, Mark2010?

UCLA and Illinois played against each other in a bowl game last season.

I think he might struggle if he went back to the NFL. I think he would be incredibly successful if he went to Tennessee.

I know. Feel asleep midway through the second quarter of that game.

It's lame to say you're accepting a bowl bid and then canning the coach.

I didn't watch a second of that game. But it's not lame; it's more or less required. Try telling your conferencemates that you're not accepting a check they get to split because "it's lame."
