Apparently in addition to not being able to vote he didn't have any TV privileges last year.

Didn't Notre Dame turn down a bowl bit a little more than a decade ago? I'm sure a few others have as well.

I agree that it should never happen.

UCLA skipped Boise's bowl one year because going would have led to a major financial loss.

I guess that would be one of the reasons to skip. I also get it if there are sanctions looming or something like that...

Why should it never happen? There are all kinds of reasons it should happen. #1 is, as noted below, the major financial bloodbath that can ensue. It's actually very common, and possibly even the majority of the time, for a school to lose money on a bowl appearance. I think UConn might have even lost some bucks on a BCS bid.

Two years ago Cal and Washington had the final play of the season from the 1-yard line. Winner is bowl eligible and loser isn't. I swear to God Cal's defensive line decided before the play to let Washington score and get themselves out of a month of practice.

Notre Dame turned down the Liberty Bowl in Davie's last year (can't remember for sure if he'd been canned yet ... I think he was).

South Carolina and Clemson eliminated themselves from contention in 2004 because of that massive brawl.

Those are the only ones in recent memory.

South Carolina and Clemson made the right move. That brawl was brutal...

But it isn't like they were going to play in January...that was Holtz's last game right?

247Sports' Phillip Marshall is reporting that Chizik is all but out at Auburn. However, he couched it by writing that president Jay Gogue "is preparing to make a change." (It's a subscriber-only story, or I'd link it).

Only potential replacement mentioned in the story is Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson. I'll join the chorus and say ... WHO?!?!?!?
