Probably. I could see that at a big state school with a huge stadium and big fan base like Tennessee.

If Tennessee doesn't get Gruden, I doubt it will be because they didn't offer enough money.

I really hope it happens. In the college game, a great coach really can make a difference pretty quickly.

I don't think Gruden is all that great as an analyst. I'm not crazy over any of the current TV guys. But for some maybe it beats the stress of coaching. What's the saying, you're always undefeated from the booth?

Auburn lost to Vandy last month and has been Terri Schiavo since then.

Some chatter that the complete-control aspect has become a hang-up with UT and Gruden.

Of course, there's no hope of Gruden going to UT...not after he sees this:

I can't imagine they get him without giving him complete control. He has all the leverage. Does Meyer have complete control at OSU? I thought I remember reading that technically he doesn't, but his contract is written in a way where he basically can do whatever he wants. They can fire him, but he'll be owed every cent of his deal, and I think it's a similar deal for Saban at Alabama.

Typically, only portions of college coaching contracts are guaranteed. The rest are tied into shoe deals, TV show deals, radio show deals, booster appearances... money that can only be paid out if the guy is still employed as the team's coach. I think the top handful of coaches have their entire deal guaranteed.

I can't imagine anyone else giving two sh*ts about this (only know of one other WMU alum on the board), but it was certainly time. Did well early, but they've been blown by in the MAC West by teams with really good, young coaches. The new guy will have plenty of tough competition, but it's a good place to be & the University has put a ton into the program.

In his defense, Cubit has done a ton in the community & WMU has the best APR in the league. Gotta win, though......gotta win.

I've not read back any pages, but word in East Tennessee was Ed Orgeron was in town. This is not good news for UT faithful.

Maybe he just needed a new Hummer.
