    Tedford is toast at Cal.

Yeah, they just had to. That program has zero energy right now. He did one of the best jobs of the 2000s in reviving them, but when there's no spark after 11 years, it's time for a change.

I'm sure Mike McIntyre at San Jose State will get a look, but I don't know if he's ready for that kind of a step up. Cal has a bit of a problem in that they have trouble paying assistants real Pac-12 salaries adjusted for cost of living.

I know Edsall made few friends with his overall dickishness last year, but I don't think you can really judge him or Leach or really any coach on their record the first year. There are exceptions, such as Harbaugh leaving Stanford in damn good shape with Luck at QB, but most of the time you are taking over a shit situation with a bunch of players you didn't recruit, don't know and might not fit your system.

All things considered, Maryland's record really ain't that bad this year. If even the second-string quarterback had stayed healthy the Terps might have flirted with a bowl. I'll be surprised if we don't see steady improvement at Washington State over the next couple of years until Leach has them looking pretty good four or five seasons in.

It takes more than just walking in and waving around a Super Bowl ring that you got when the players you're talking to were 6 or 7.

Sounds like they're hurting for money. When do they join the Big 10?

Sooner or later, some NFL franchise will offer Gruden total control and megamoney. Why should he settle for ANY college gig? And to a pro guy, which he is, that's what college is -- settling.

Disagree. I think a guy like Gruden would get a lot more at a major college job than an NFL team will give him. Maybe not money, but in terms of control. Can't imagine too many NFL GMs willing to give up total control over personnel issues to a coach they just hired.

Gruden won one Super Bowl with a team he inherited from Tony Dungy. Good for him. Doesn't make him the next Vince Lombardi or Don Shula.

I know Chris Petersen's name ALWAYS gets tossed out. Heard from a source close to him 2 jobs that'd tempt him: Oregon & Cal.

Word on the street is Jon Gruden has signed a contract with UT and it will be announced Nov. 30.

And here's how they are paying for it:

Fayetteville TV station reports Arkansas has offered Gruden the job.

His agent is the best in the world at creating buzz and extracting leverage. He'd field an offer from Dillon High if he thought it would boost the winning price.

Well this will certainly be fun to watch.

    Is Jimmy Sexton his agent?
