And if I'm Gruden, I don't take any job until I know what Jerry Jones' intentions are.

Can't believe Sean Payton wouldn't be at the top of Jerrah's list.

After Gruden's experience in Oakland, it's safe to say Dallas is off his list. Right?

Speaking of Gruden, the Pigs and the Vols, Herbie had this to say during a stopover at Cheez-It's headquarters the other day:

In response to the question, "Who will be the next coach at Arkansas?" he responded that he was with John Gruden at a Kenny Chesney concert a few weeks ago. From that conversation he got the distinct impression Gruden was itching to get back into coaching, and it will most likely be at the college level. He said he didn't think Arkansas would be attractive enough for him, but he mentioned that the Tennessee job would be attractive to Gruden.

Tennessee is doing itself no favors. It better be Gruden, or it is going to end up being Derrick Dooley II.
This is how college football programs drop a few levels....

You look at Urban Meyer at Utah...a lot of speculation about him going to ND - boom, he's at Florida, ND ends up with Mr. Schematic Advantage
Same with him Meyer the gig at Ohio State - no buzz or speculation, they just get it done.
Same with Bama and Saban, sure you have to lie your ass off, but you don't come off with someone who is everyone knows is a "second choice."

You forget, Saban was the second choice at Alabama (in that someone else had been all but formally hired).

Last year was all on Edsall. He was an unmitigated disaster.

This year? If he wasn't playing a linebacker at QB, he'd be going to a bowl game. I give him a lot of credit actually, in that he's saying the right things and went out and hired coordinators who know what the fuck they're doing. Plus his recruiting is better than anything Maryland football has seen in a while. He absolutely learned some lessons, was smart to hire John Maroon's PR firm to help him out, and he's definitely turning things around. I grant you that Maryland couldn't fall down any further than it already had, but he has things going in the right directions. I'm not on the Edsall bandwagon yet (DC Brian Stewart is a different story, though) but I'm at least driving toward the train station's parking lot.

A Nashville TV station reported Arkansas offered him too.

But Ron Higgins tweeted it was offered, but Gruden said no thanks.

The SEC is cray-cray when it comes to coaching searches.

Who was the "other" Bama coach?

The names bandied about for Cal are predictable, mostly successful coaches or coordinators in the West region. I think they can swing big and land a coach with a team in the top 25 and/or at least one appearance in a BCS bowl. Nobody would have thought Wazzu would land Leach or Zona would get RichRod.
The goal should be a Charlie Strong or a Chris Peterson.

It's mind-boggling that in the current economic situation, state institutions are cutting other positions and eliminating things in order to buy out a FOOTBALL COACH!!!

Someone in authority outside the athletic department needs to step up and put a stop to this. A contract is a contract and I don't care if we go 0-12, we're not going over some fiscal cliff for the sake of changing coaches. Madness!!

Same reason people shell out 19.99 for a cheap plastic thing that sometimes slices vegetables. As Seen on TV.
Never understood why Brian Billick never has his name batted around much. Like Gruden, he has a ring, he's very articulate and seems like a bright guy.
