I would love to hear why Hue Jackson's credentials are worse than Lane Kiffin's.

Here is what is often overlooked about Lane Kiffin... The guy is a recruiting machine. If memory serves, he even did pretty well during his one year in Tennessee...

Kiffin was also run off by Al Davis, which (at least at the time) made him look a bit more sympathetic than getting fired by Reggie McKenzie.

I don't know a ton about Hue Jackson, but when I was covering the NFL, when you talked to GMs about which assistants would be the next good head coaches, his name was always mentioned... It's hard to gauge anything about most coaches based on a year in Oakland. Hell, it seems like the only coach in the last 20 years who can clearly say his tenure in Oakland was a success is Gruden.

The thing with Kiffin in Oakland was, he was naive enough to think Al Davis would allow him to run the team his way. And anyone remember that classic sound bite during his newser, how he was buying season tickets in The Black Hole for his wife and kidlet?

I just remembered Kiffin saying the Raiders would "play happy." At that point, I knew it would not end well.
Kiffin must be fantastic one on one without TV cameras, because when I see him in front of TV cameras he gives off a serious Eddie Haskell vibe.

He looked like a deer in the headlights Saturday as he stumbled through a few worn-out cliches right before kickoff -- Brian Kelly, on the other hand, sounded relaxed and focused -- and Kiffin doesn't appear to be much of a sideline coach. I look forward to what's written about him in the days and weeks ahead.

Kiffin is not a good coach in any sense of the word. Recruiting at Southern Cal is not exactly a challenge, though I suppose he deserves credit for grabbing a few elite recruits from the East Coast.

Probably not a bad move. You knew what you were going to get with O'Brien and there are a number of good coaches (Sun Belt/Big East) who would fit nicely there. Of course, with NC State, football coaches know what they are going to get as well.
