Not at all. Herb is one of my favorite coaches I ever covered. Should be noted he wasn't fired though. He left because NC State fans are nuts.

I know, I know. He left. But first he was surrounded by screaming hordes with pitchforks and lit torches.

College football, in the end, is an entertainment business. And Tom O'Brien has all the entertainment value of a Go Fish tournament. Sorry.

More than you think. There are factions of fans in the area that actually worry about their schools and aren't obsessed with ABC (Anybody But ... yeah, yeah).

Versatile, Herb Sendek was never fired. Furthermore, he was supported with sincerity by then-AD Lee Fowler. He bolted for Tempe not only for a little more money, but also because the Wolfpack Club and bunches of NCSU fans are freaking nuts.

As I already said on the other thread, James Franklin is likely at the top of Debbie Yow's list. After that, who knows?

Debbie Yow wouldn't have fired him if she didn't have a plan.

And I'm thinking her plan involves James Franklin, regardless of whether or not he's denied any interest in the job so far. Thing is, I think Franklin can do better than that.

For a while there, ACC football was Florida State and the eight dwarfs. Now, if someone were serious about things, they might have the chance to build a decent program within a few years and knock heads with the big boys regularly. It will be interesting to see what school tries to hit a home run with a coaching hire.

Correct. No way Yow didn't have 3-5 names in the file cabinet before canning O'Brien.

Mark, what do you think Virginia Tech has been for most of the last few years? Yeah, Frank Beamer and his guys hiccuped this season, but to write them off based on one shaky season given their recent track record is short-sighted, maybe even just crazy.

For sure. Can't remember what year Tech came over from the Big East, but they've been a consistent program for a while.

Debbie Yow is a damn nightmare. So glad she's at NC State. The truth of the matter is her financial mismanagement and misfeasance at Maryland is why the Terps are going to the Big Ten.

She started the boulder rolling downhill, but the current management added the grease.
