I think any BCS conference program falls in that category now. Unlike, say, 30 years ago, everyone believes that given the right resources, they can win on a national level. Colorado had some success in the 1990s under McCartney, so it's not totally unrealistic to think they could get back on track again.

Only a scoundrel wins at Colorado. So maybe we need to figure out which scoundrels are available.

Given what Colorado's got to work with, somebody off of Oregon State's staff might not be a bad idea.

What about this guy setting the table for someone in Boulder? He has experience in that geographical region.

Any fiscal mismanagement at UMd. can be made up with one check from Kevin Plank. Not a Debbie Yow fan here, and she certainly botched the Franklin/Fridge deal, but I don't buy that line of reasoning for a second. I also defer to you on all matters College Park, because you know that scene much better.

Not so sure about that. Maryland cut multiple sports. Byrd Stadium is a joke and facilities for baseball, lacrosse, soccer etc. lag way behind other ACC schools. Those kinds of things rarely get fixed by a single donor in a short amount of time.

I like the idea of Colorado hiring someone who has been around the Pac-12 a while, especially in the South division going against imports like Graham and Rodriguez. Hire someone who kids who have grown up wanting to play in the Pac 10(12) know.

And I figure Jack Del Rio's name will be mentioned too.

Because they fired a coach right after his 6th win assuring the program of its 12th bowl season in the last 16 years? Umm, NO, this merely means Purdue doesn't accept the mediocre path that Hope's got them on, your dumpster fire comment remains stupid as ever.

How do you expect Purdue to be consistently better? Indiana has a smaller population than the three Big 10 states it borders. High school basketball is the passion in the state and it is not a prep football hotbed. Notre Dame will generally get an Indiana kid if they want him. IU sucks at football but still manages to dilute the talent pool in-state. I think Joe Tiller ranks as one of the best and most underrated coaches of the last 20 years to accomplish what he did. Before Tiller arrived the school ran off coaches every couple of years.

To me this is a situation like when Maryland fired Ralph Friedgen. Purdue fires a decent coach to bring in someone to take them to the "next level". And will wind up with a Randy Edsall like disaster.

    Exactly.

What is Purdue supposed to expect in that conference?
