There's no denial that he's considering the Vols job. Just a denial about the Browns ownership thing, which is probably not allowed.

I don't know if Gruden is taking any job, but if he doesn't take one this year, my guess will be that he's done coaching for good.

Would he be allowed to own a piece of the Browns if he were coaching them?

I don't know if it is, but it screams conflict of interest.

I don't see it at all. I have heard of college coaches owning shares of minor league teams. It seems like a reasonable perk. The thing that would worry me would be Gruden turning around and leaving for the Browns the next time that job comes open.

Big difference between a minor-league team and a NFL team.

I think at this point, Kirby Smart will get at least $2.5 to $3 million a year for his first head coaching gig when he decides to leave Alabama. He may be the most sought-after assistant since Stoops was coaching the defense in Gainesville.

So Gruden is offered a piece of the Browns. Fine. How does that affect his advice to players coming out for the draft? I think there are a lot of other unknowns here in addition to that.

He likely will get more than that. Will Muschamp got more than $3.5 million.

Right. I'm not saying he would do anything improper, but it would raise questions about things he may or may not tell a team that could be drafting one of his guys. I don't think he would ever do anything like that, but even putting him into a position where he could, should not be allowed...
