Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but La Tech's Sonny Dykes reportedly interviewing at NC State:

I wonder what opening it would take for Smart to jump. I'm guessing he is holding out for something better than Cal or Colorado, not that either is a bad job...

Georgia's probably his dream job, but that's not going to come open any time soon. I don't see why he wouldn't be interested in Tennessee or Arkansas, assuming they're interested in him.

I think Smart would be, um, wise to take a job where he can show his chops and succeed and figure Alabama or Georgia will come calling when Saban or Richt steps down.

As highly touted as he is, he might look at a Big 12 job (I know, none are open) or another conference with a different style from the SEC to broaden his coaching/recruiting experience which until now is all SEC-region. It will make him a better coach down the road.

Here is why Kirby Smart would be wise not to take the Arkansas or Tennessee job - because he would have to be better than Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia and Texas A&M every year just to sniff a conference title and that conference has a way of eating new coaches alive.

Heck, look at Mark Richt. The drumbeats were growing before this season.

    Edit: Two seasons ago.

Like Will Muschamp? Like Dan Mullen?

I got a dollar in my pocket that says Kirby Smart is the next head coach at Arkansas.

The Piggies took a shot at a big name, now is the time to the fallback position. Smart is that person.

It will stay quiet until after the SEC CG and Arkansas will make an announcement on Monday or Tuesday.

    What's Mullen won?

    What's Muschamp won?

Not much yet, but it does appear they have staved off being "eaten alive."

    Good coaches are good coaches.

I'd love it if Smart wound up at Arkansas or Tennessee after the Jon Grudens of the world turn them down and then Smart could go in as the "plan b" and kick ass.

I'm assuming Charlie Strong gets one of those jobs. I could see Smart winding up at Tennessee if the Gruden pursuit blows up in their face.
