Because no one gives a shit about pre-1900 players who have been dead 100 years.

Do they still play the Hall of Fame Game?

If so, it will have an attendance roughly equaling a sandlot game this year.

No, I don't think they've played that for at least 10 years.

    I do, too.

And it was always known that neither one was going to get in quickly.

Why not? This time, everyone is incensed because a 3,000-hit guy didn't get in. Niekro and Sutton had to wait multiple years. Was there similar outrage?

I agree. The only thing I don't like about the NFL's system is the anonymity that surrounds it. You should be held accountable for your vote.

I agree. Better system. Baseball has too many people on the ballot for too many years. I like Mizzou's suggestion of 5 years of eligibility. Voters know the player and his credentials. It doesn't serve any purpose to keep someone's name on there for 15 years.

And, forget 75 percent. Pick a number and count the votes. Top 5 (or whatever number) get inducted, whether they get 100 percent of the votes or the vote is fairly split among a whole bunch of people.

Well, Niekro was accused of cheating during his career. :D

    Wasn't he actually caught?

    Sure, it does.

Five years after a player finishes his career, many of his peers are still playing. Ten years after a player finishes his career, some of his peers are still playing. By 15 years, you can likely get a very good idea how a said player stacks up to the other standouts from his era, over the course of their careers. The wider the lens, the more complete the picture.
