Obviously, Lasorda is biased as hell. He's also right. Where is the evidence against Piazza?

Same place as the evidence against Bonds -- of which, by your standards, there is very little.

"Didn't knowingly take" comes to mind, but I have no problem conceding that point. Again, I expect no better from Lasorda and he is still right about Piazza.

Lasorda, still and always the arrogant gasbag.

I was flabbergasted when I found out Jacob Ruppert wasn't in the Hall 50 years ago. That still kind of blows my mind.

I predict Dahlen sails in next time, along with the long-overdue and legendary James Creighton. After that, Daniel Lucius Adams and William Rufus Wheaton, two characters whose previously unknown but immensely important contributions to the development of baseball were detailed in John Thorn's book, "Baseball in the Garden of Eden." That might close the book on the 19th century.

It's obvious Dahlen will be the choice next time based on the voting.

The ensuing pre-integration ballot will be interesting to see. The last time they had a vote for pre-1943 players, of the 10 one was inducted and the remaining nine had four on the ballot this time (Dahlen, White, Ferrell and Walters) of the six-player spots.

And since none of the other six got more than three votes when 12 are needed, if you put nine other names on the list with Dahlen I can't imagine the crop of candidates will be very good, especially when the back end of this ballot wasn't all that hot.

And for the record, I though the three that were chosen should have been, as well as Dahlen. I wouldn't have had a problem with Sam Breadon (as long as Ruppert got in) and an arguement for Mullane is certainly valid

Can't wait to see what the Expansion ballot comes up with next year after the manger troika of Torre, LaRussa and Cox. Will they just carry over seven names from last time or punt knowing those three will be picked, plus the likelihood that at least two players (Glavine and Maddux) will be BBWWA picks and a couple more might after the disaster of this year?

Tom Cheek wins Ford C. Frick award and is going to the Hall of Fame. Long overdue.

Congratulations to a legend, in my opinion.

Tim Cowlishaw speaks -- "I never applied for this role as watchdog or moral compass for Major League Baseball, so I’m unofficially resigning the post. Starting now, I’m going to do something unimaginable to many of you. When I fill out my Hall of Fame ballot, I’m going to vote for the best baseball players."

Tim Cowlishaw acts -- His ballot is Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, Martinez, McGwire, Raines, Walker.

    No Piazza or Biggio.

I really, truly believe that no one is getting in this time. And it will keep getting worse because there are so many candidates but no one can come even close to finding commong ground on 10, let alone 15 choices.

How can he set that criteria, then not vote for Piazza?

And the latest by someone following ballots on the Bonds-Clemens front -- 157 voters (87 no to both, 70 yes to both)

If no one gets in this year, the BBWAA will have taken another step to having MLB (which controls the National Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame), remove it from the selection process. MLB is quite capable of installing another tame committee of insiders, maybe with a sponsored fan vote on top.

Indeed, long overdue. Great to see the two premier voices of Canadian baseball in my youth, Cheek and Dave Van Horne, both honoured.
