Maybe because Piazza did commercials for Pert shampoo?

Why are you bringing up Ty Cobb?

What, you think he was a paragon of goodness and decency? The point I was making wasn't just about cheating.

: Oh there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out their ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano. Rocky Marciano. Let me tell you something once and for all. Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't shit.

On the field vs. off the field. Big effin' duh, deep thinker. Can't get more apples-to-oranges than that for this process. Keep grasping. Maybe you and two like-thinking friends will get the vote someday so you can balance out mine, according to the 75% rule.

Yes, you are so powerful and almighty because you have a vote. For as many good and decent voters as there are there are a collection of out of touch jack asses that still have votes. Talk about arrogance.

Now you go and keep your hall of fame nice and clean. Those damn men who took steroids have really damaged the game, you make sure your pious ass makes them pay. Greenies, coke, spitballs no problems there but do not take anything to help your performance, god forbid you do that.

I bet he has a line drawn in his mind about who is a "first ballot" Hall of Famer and Piazza is below that line. It's a silly practice but still very common.

First of all, see JC's post. He nailed it.

Cobb was there to make the point that you are trying way too hard to enforce morality in the Hall of Fame despite the fact that there have been dirtbags enshrined from the very beginning. I'm sorry if that was too complex of a thought for a Hall of Fame voter such as yourself.

I also included Gaylord Perry, who EVERYBODY knew was a cheat when he was elected. What is your excuse there? Only some types of cheating matter?

Yes, you have a vote and the runaway ego to go with it. That is probably why you don't realize that you are abusing it and failing in your duty as a Hall of Fame voter.

Almost certainly more than just one. And so did a lot of other players.

There are a LOT of parallels between betting/game-fixing in the Deadball Era and PEDs in the Steroid Era. A lot.

Joe's last post looking more and more ridiculous. Nicely done, Mr. "I've Got a Vote!"

Really like how you make your shrill arguments and then applaud them too.

You tell me, then: Why does the HOF give 15 years of eligibility on the writers' ballot? Just a numbers thing, so some guys don't get run over by a super-qualified class? Could solve that with a three-year window. Or is it to provide time to consider context, multiple factors in a player's legacy, a dynamic pool of electors, etc.?

If not, let's make it all a one-or-done election then. "Gee, the fellas numbers don't change." Or scrap it all and bestow enshrinement only on statistical thresholds.

BTW, arrogance is telling other people how to exercise their judgment and do their jobs. I tell no one how they ought to vote, simply how I see it. You don't vote, yet you sure want to tell me and others how to go about it. Lame.
