    There is no contradiction.

That is your opinion. I simply disagree.

What is the basis of your disagreement?

Also anecdotally: He was a model citizen in Atlanta, too.

I do wonder how Sheffield's reputation would be different if not for his self-admitted "tanking" to get out of Milwaukee in 1990. He still would have been seen as surly, but I think that damning incident very early in his career really soured a lot of people on him forever (and I do understand why.)

You compare these horrible crimes to PED use and dismiss the difference as only being a matter of degree, as if the massive difference in degree was meaningless.

Maybe that isn't how you meant it, but that is how it reads to me.

    Cite to "dismiss." And "meaningless."

    Thanks.

T.R. Sullivan's ballot — Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Jack Morris, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Sammy Sosa, Alan Trammell

Interesting, and not bad (could live without Morris & Palmeiro but happy to see Raines Bagwell & Trammell). Why no McGwire?

Just because you didn't use the exact words doesn't mean that isn't exactly what you are doing. You contradicted yourself and you are trying to hide behind word games rather than admit it. Keep trying to lie to yourself if you like. Nobody else is buying it.

No need to quote the message tree with every damn post - it's not like anybody is still following.
The two most intractable guys on the site arguing on a Hall of Fame thread.
This should be entertaining, yet it so isn't.

He said he ran out of spots and wanted to get Raines and Trammell on his ballot. Part of his reasoning is that he has seen McGwire's vote totals and sees him as a stagnant candidate and had to cut somebody with the 10-player limit. He said McGriff was his toughest omission.
