For a guy so confident in his career dick, you have an incredibly thin skin. If you were half the writer you think you are, you wouldn't need to hide behind profanity and personal attacks. You would be able to back up your points on their merits. Having failed miserably at that, you decided to play internet tough guy. By the way, I hope you wiped the spittle off your monitor when you were done venting your spleen at me for daring to point out the truth about your vote. I'm arguing the point. You are the one letting it turn you sideways.

You'd punch me in the face for calling you out on your bullshit? Then you have the self control of a child.

Where was that big career dick when baseball was failing to deal with the steroid problem? Why did none of that inside knowledge you are using now to punish the "guilty" never make it into print? Sounds to me like you are one of the journalists who either failed to see it all happening or you simply didn't have the ability or the balls to write the story.

Your posts reveal your desire to punish steroid users. If you want to lie and deny that, that's up to you, but don't expect me to stop pointing out the truth.

You are using your ballot to punish baseball players you think used. Pure and simple. The fact that you won't admit it doesn't change that. You are doing it in cases that you don't even know for sure that they used. And even worse, you are assuming guys are clean when you should know better. We can't assume anybody from that era is clean.

And that bit about wanting your vote to go in faster just because I don't like it only proves my point about the way you vote.

Thank you for proving every single thing I wrote about you on this thread to be correct, Joe. Nicely done.

Who said that was my last post on this thread? It's amazing how many errors you fit into one line of copy and a disgusting picture.

Screw your nerdy numbers. I see the yard signs all over California and I can feel the vibe on the ground.

I know i am opening a can of fanboi worms, but if morris gets in...can tony perez rest easy at night knowing he is no longer the worst modern hall selection by the writers? I used to be solidly against morris, but verducci made a pretty good case for morris in his SI column last week that made me rethink a little. And for the record. No vote. Never covered pro baseball. Just a fan of hall history.

McGwire and not Sosa? I'd can see both or neither, but not one over the other.

    Explain, pls?

Sure. I mostly make my decisions based on how a player ranked among his position peers during his era. I also like to use OPS+ as the starting point, because it's the best single number for rating a guy's offense. I go deeper than that, of course, but this is how I start.

Now, McGwire ranks 2nd among all first basemen from 1985-2000 in OPS+

Here are the corner outfielders, from 1990-2008 in OPS+

Sosa is 10th, behind guys like Brian Giles, Juan Gonzalez, Magglio Ordonez, and barely ahead of Ryan Klesko. Really the only number of Sosa's that separates him from the pack are the homers, and those are questionable.

Then you're erring, IMO, in relying on that stat as your baseline; it's also a good test case for OPS+ overvaluing OBP. For example:

Brian Giles broke into the majors at 25, a couple years away from entering his prime. He finished in the top 10 in MVP voting once (9th).

Sosa made his debut at 20. He also has 350 more homers, about 800 more RBIs, more than double the steals, an MVP, a second place finish, and four other top 10s.

Now, Brian Giles was a fine hitter. But he wasn't a better player than Sammy Sosa. And that your baseline stat says he was indicates a flaw in your approach, IMO.

We going to factor in defense and speed?
