Same name as the retiring De La Salle coach. Are they related?

There are 240 players ( including Negro League players, 205 without Negro League inductees) in the Baseball Hall of Fame. About 17,000 people have played in the Major Leagues.

So the debate about who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame essentially comes down to whether a particular player is in the top 1.5% of all who played (HOF) or the between 1.51% & 2% (notHOF) of all who played. Has this become about dancing Angels on the head of a pin?

And we have our first Shawn Green vote!

From Jill Painter, who goes with the awesome ballot of Bernie Williams, Mattingly, Lofton, Martinez, Biggio and Shawn Green.

And yet another example of why voters should be given respect, no questions asked.

Took me almost a quarter-century to get into the BBWAA, and they are going to lose the Hall of Fame vote before I get to my 10 years.

Don't you think that no matter who you use to vote -- fans, broadcasters, players, SportsJournalists.commers -- there would be some outliers cast weird ballots?

Not an easy team to win a pennant with most years.

Also not easy to have 50 percent of your votes not even make it to a second ballot.

Her response to someone mocking her ballot on Twitter was that they must be a steroids guy. Because voting for Shawn Green over Alan Trammell or Dale Murphy or Tim Raines or Jack Morris sends a message against steroids.
