I think Schilling is being lumped by some with the PED users.

Interesting to note that the total number of ballots was four lower than last year. Wonder how many didn't turn it ballots out of protest

Because what happened today is a fucking joke.

With Clemens and Bonds, the evidence seems pretty strong that they had already accumulated their HOF hardware (3 MVPs/3 Cys) before they ever shot up. If neither one plays after 1996, they're Hall of Famers.

McGwire and Sosa aren't even in the conversation without the juice.

At least that's what it looks like to me.

I can't imagine a scenario where McGwire, Sosa and Palmeiro ever get in.

I feel so dirty for agreeing with you but this is spot fucking on. The BBWAA is an abortion of an organization.

No doubt. Bonds and Clemens are Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson to Sosa and McGwire's Ralph Kiner and Harmon Killebrew. Inner-circle Hall of Famers, vs. one-dimensional players (but Hall of Famers still, if clean).

Because this was one of the deepest ballots of HOF-worthy candidates I've ever seen.

The HOF voters have devolved into Lucille Bluth.

I disagree. They have 15 years to consider the players. It's completely fair to wait on some guys like Piazza for whom there is strong circumstantial evidence. They weren't "kept out." Not permanently. Their application is simply on hold. That's different.

Writers were clearly encouraged not to vote for anyone who was linked to PEDs this year. I know writers who were essentially told, "We're not voting for them this year..." I wouldn't say they were pressured into voting a certain way, but they were told that their peers weren't voting for Bonds, Clemens etc... this year... One of my friends who has a vote said he didn't have a problem not voting for them, but said he wasn't going to vote for Biggio or Raines if he didn't vote for Bonds and Clemens, and ended up voting for all four and a couple others... He said they were also encouraged not to turn in a blank ballot.
