You'd know plenty about arrogance. Pretending your job is as important as it is.

Now that Oakland will likely be eliminated, we'll hear the same ole narrative about how Moneyball doesn't work because the A's have had bad playoff luck.

Well, they are 0-6 in Game 5s -- five of them at home -- and 1-12 when facing elimination. Seems it's more than luck.

But in the case of this Game 5, Verlander wasn't losing, period.

They won 96 games with a shit payroll. And they do shit like this year after year. I'd say even without winning playoff series, the formula is working.

Seriously, though, it surprises me that Beane hasn't left for the greener pastures of a team with a higher payroll. Has he ever said why he's never made a jump?

What in the hell was that that the Tigers just did to celebrate? Was that a Maori war dance?

I thought it had something to do with being divorced and wanting to stay close to his daughter, at least at the time the Red Sox offered him the job in 2002-03.

Teams that can have big payrolls don't need a guy who can lose in the playoffs with a small payroll.

What is that supposed to mean? As it currently stands, Beane has ZERO room for error. He can't make a bad signing or else it cripples the team. So he makes a bunch of good ones at low-cost.

If he had more money to spend he could get those types of players PLUS more expensive ones who offer more to a team. There's no way he couldn't win multiple World Series if he had even a legitimate payroll.

The notion that big-money teams don't need a future Hall of Fame general manager, probably the best general manager in the game, is ridiculous.

Pablo Sandoval wonders what all the fuss is about. How much more incredible did his 3-HR night become?

And in those Game 5s the opposing starting pitchers were:

    Justin Verlander twice
    Andy Pettitte
    Pedro Martinez
    Brad Radke
    Roger Clemens

    Good luck with that.
