I don't know that that was such a big deal this time. Colon and Gray are a perfectly acceptable 1-2. Sanchez, where you'd figure the Tigers had the advantage, got rocked in Game 3.

But to your larger point, the A's have always been great at beating the crap out of bad teams. This year they were 26-7 against the Astros, Twins and White Sox, the three worst teams in the AL. Against the teams that made the playoffs, they were 12-14.

Some of those losses came with a Hudson, Mulder, Zito rotation. They had no pitching excuses for losing.

Sorry, Dick didn't mean to cast aspersions on your point, got it mixed up with prior historical posts.

Don Mattingly, ace manager: pinch-runs for Gonzalez after a leadoff walk in eighth. Dee Gordon doesn't run, gets forced at second. Next hitter GIDP.

So now his cleanup hitter is out of the game, with Michael Young in his place.

Wasted a fantastic performance by Greinke. He was awesome tonight.

TBS needs to let go of the "shutdown inning" stat. It's garbage. They're all shutdown innings.

    Molina never tagged him.

If the throw beats you by that much, you don't have to tag.
