    And clearly Boston never recovered.

You should think of guys like Gomes, Victorino and Napoli as the players the Sox got in that trade, because they used the money they saved dumping the three contractsto acquire them.

How do you walk a guy who is 0-for-2,234 on four pitches with the bases loaded?

Situation: Bases loaded, one out. Iglesias hits what should be a double play ball to second.

Second baseman throws to short. Drew is way off the bag when he makes the catch. Yet runner is called out.

You see this all the time. Will replay eradicate that? Either you touch the base or you don't. And guys at second, for some reason, have a fear of touching the base.

Just because they overcame it doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake.

That said, Michael_Gee has a point. Judging those trades based solely upon the players involved is stupid. You have to look at the money saved and what the Red Sox did with it.

The players who replaced them outperformed them this season. Better OPS, better OPS+. That isn't overcoming a mistake, that's making a great calculation about value.

Even if everyone was making the same money the Red Sox would have been better with the current guys.

So far, it seems to be working.

So is Victorino the biggest douche in baseball or only the second biggest douche in baseball?

    Wow, that Tiger bullpen ...

No wonder Leyland smokes like a chimney.

He's been doing that since he managed the Pirates. Then again, his best teams in Pittsburgh had shaky bullpens, too.

It's a tie between him and A.J. Pierzynski.

I don't care how much B.J. Upton sucked this year, I'm still glad the Braves didn't sign Victorino. Not sure I could have washed the stank off after reluctantly rooting for him simply because he was wearing the right uniform.

Buck, after Verlander's comments the other day, I eagerly await Victorino getting hit on the elbow and not getting his base because the pitch is called a strike.
