Agreed. One of the most basic fundamental things in baseball. Bend at knees, keep bat head up. Players who pop up bunts should be instantly demoted to the minors.

MLB pitchers are pretty good at what they do and are trying to prevent them from bunting.

Managers who order players to unnecessarily give away outs should also be demoted to the minors.

The guy who didn't get the bunt down also hit the pennant-winning grand slam, so I doubt Farrell is mad at him.

Umm. It was Stephen Drew who couldn't get the bunt down.

Fair point if MLB pitchers weren't facing MLB hitters.

Umm, it was Victorino who popped a bunt to the pitcher.

No clock of any kind will ever become a part of baseball, and I don't think it necessarily should, but damn, it would be nice if they speed things up without one.

And the limit on pickoff attempts is unworkable, too, because after the second one, a runner could take as big of a lead as they want without fear of getting picked off.

I like your ideas in theory, but they're not quite practical.

How about not allowing timeouts to the batter? Get in the box, stay in the box. That would speed the game up right there.

And make the slow-ass Red Sox and Yankees win a super majority of their games to get into the playoffs, something like 115 victories or they're out. Christ, you'd think they were guarding the launch codes and have to vet every pitch before it can be thrown. Make a fucking pitch already.

Leyland stepping down as Tigers manager, 11:30 a.m. presser scheduled, per Ken Rosenthal on Twitter:

Maybe the runner *should* be awarded the next base after enough failed pickoff attempts.
