It doesnt matter what he says. He knew he wasn't getting that call back. He could have went out there and told Joyce and Hirschbeck to look at the two blonds with big tits in the 3rd row behind his dugout.......As long as he didn't get to Demuth.

It will be a pretty interesting plate meeting with Demuth for Game 3.

How does an umpire miss that badly? Should be reassigned to the bench for the remainder of the WS. I mean its a meritocracy, right?

Cards fans (and I'm one) are homer idiots who can't just accept that their team pooped the bed and got walloped by a very good team when they did so. That picture could be a scuffed glove or just a quirk of the lighting. And even if he did doctor the ball, that doesn't make Kozma catch and turn the double play on Ortiz. It doesn't make Wainwright catch the pop up. Best thing to do is suck it up and get back to work today and try to get out with a tie.

I'm jumping ahead one game, but what's the best guess on how (or whether) the Red Sox keep Ortiz and Napoli in the lineup in St. Louis? Without going back through files, that strikes me as one of the biggest impact DH/no DH dilemmas I've seen.

Ortiz will play first. He's done that quite a bit when the Red Sox play interleague games.

Right but then where does that leave Napoli, their second-best hitter?

    He could catch.

Hasn't caught a game all year. That would be verrrrry interesting.

The other option I guess is third base, where he has never played.

Napoli apparently can no longer catch at all due to his hip (he didn't see any time at all behind the plate this year). I agree taking him out of the lineup will hurt, but not as much as Ortiz, particularly given that St. Louis' entire starting rotation is right-handed.

By the way, here's are close-ups of Lester's glove (click image to zoom). It looks like there's ... something ... right along the laces between the webbing and thumb...

Miami Herald is reporting that it was a "Q-Ring" that made his pitches go 10 mph faster.
