It is probably Andrews' screw-up. And we're on a tangent here. But ...

He also said he owns a convenience store across the street and had to hurry back there to sell T-shirts, hats and other goodies. So if he owns that business, and that kind of money (almost all cash) is coming in on game days, I'm thinking maybe those are the 81 days a year he absolutely, positively works. And since he's right there anyway, he uses his ticket.

I don't know. Maybe not. But it's feasible for his situation.

Not like the shitheads who have skipped weddings and births to attend the Super Bowl, anyway :)

That photo would have stood on its own without the silly superimposed cop on the umpire's legs.

Agreed. Would have been much better to use the photo without altering it.

We haven't heard jack shit about #BostonStrong for weeks, if not months. And suddenly the Red Sox winning became all about that.

    Gimme a break ...

Here's McCarver's farewell for those who (like me) turned off the TV before it aired:

I won't lie that McCarver annoyed the piss out of me a lot of the time, but I always respected him for speaking his mind and for not resorting to "wow, these guys are so great at what they do!" like Jon Gruden and so many other high-profile analysts do.

    Two things stand out:

    1. In Game 4 of the 1996 World Series, McCarver railing against Mark Wohlers trying to get Jim Leyritz out with this third-best pitch (the slider). Right after that, Leyritz homered.

    2. In Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, McCarver saying that with the Yankees infield drawn in, Mariano Rivera was apt to give up broken-bat singles over second base to left-handed hitters. Luis Gonzalez then did just that.

I know and like McCarver. He was an outstanding announcer in many ways. But I can see why he drove fans batty. As time went by, he talked more and more. Sometimes, you know, ball one is just that.

McCarver did a lot of good for baseball, but damn, for a long-time player and a lead analyst, he didn't know the rules and he caused umpires at every level a lot of problems because people would believe what he said over what was actually a rule in the game.

Amazing how a 37 year old first baseman coming off an injury plagued 2012 had such a great season and an amazing playoff. God be good to Papi.

He's not the first guy to have a bounce back year in the later part of his career. Back in the '70s, Willie McCovey had a rebirth. Big Papi has been very good for a long time.

Thing I cannot get over is how good Lackey looked, throwing 93, yet he was 10-13 with mediocre stats during the year.

    If you say so.

Okay, he was better than mediocre. Thank goodness it wasn't Peavy doing his best Lincecum imitation with his 88 mph sinker out there.
