That is damn cool. Might be that other top-line pitchers do that, as well, but it's cool to see what a good pitcher on top of his game brings to the mound.

Most pitchers can change speeds and repeat their arm slots, but nobody since Pedro Martinez has had consistent command of more than three pitches like Darvish does — and, truthfully, he's got about six or seven. So that's one way that Darvish stands out.

And the other difference is that nobody changes speeds from 93 mph to 66 mph from pitch to pitch quite like Darvish, either. (Chad Billingsley is the only active starter with a velocity differential that's even remotely close to Darvish's 26.1 mph difference between his average fastball and average curveball.)

    Pretty good summary here: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/yu-darvish-defining-change-of-pace/

Miggy with 2 homers in Texas, raising his average to .384.

    Who gets Miggy Cabrera out?

People who don't throw him cock-high meatballs like Derek Holland, that's who.

Not all of them. It's not like Holland is the only pitcher he is hitting. Cabrera is the best hitter in the game right now.

Make that three tonight for Cabrera, giving him 11, one off the home run lead in the American League. He leads the AL with a .387 average and 47 RBI.

Good thing he got the MVP last year over Trout.

There aren't going to be an inordinate number of highlights in this Phillies' season, so I want to note one. Back-to-back homers in the bottom of the ninth off Chapman to win a game is, well, unexpected.

That second at-bat, the look on Holland's face after the homer was priceless. He'd got him down 0-2 with really nice pitches, then couldn't get him to offer at pitches way out of the zone. Cabrera fouled off a couple before Holland inevitably stumbled into the zone. Goodbye. Holland had this look on his face like, "Damn, what do I have to do?"

You've missed one of YF's many trolling efforts.

The third at-bat and what followed was the best sequence. Hapless reliever runs a hard fastball close to Miggy's hands, so he pops back a bit and gives him the crook-eye, which seemed a bit spurious. It was just a fastball. But whatever. That's when Leyland calls for the international walk on the next pitch to load them up with 2 outs.

That was a bad call. Sure, he had 2 homers but right behind him is Prince Fucking Fielder. Just take your shot with Miggy and hope for the best.

Fielder doubles to cleans the bases for an 8-7 lead.

What is an international walk and why would Leyland be ordering one for his own best hitter? :)

But seriously ... they brought in the lefty reliever for Fielder, which was completely the right call. He has hit lefties better so far this year, but for his career he has struggled. Even last year he was much less against lefties than righties. The way Cabrera is hitting right now, and after they fell behind in the count, that was without a doubt the percentage play in that situation.
