Adam Jones is one of my favorite players in all of baseball, I gave up on the Mariners as my secondary team when they traded him.

    Valverde starts bottom-9 with a 5-3 lead.

    Markakis hits 2-strike HR.

Jones singles. Davis singles him to third.

    Wieters and Hardy pop out.

Chris Dickerson comes off the bench and hits a 3-run homer, O's win 7-5.

Clayton Richard was supposed to start Saturday for the Padres. Instead, he picked up the win in relief Friday as San Diego beat Toronto 4-3 in 17 innings.

Both bullpens were fantastic, with a total of 14 relievers (seven apiece) allowing only the one run after the fifth inning.

Good thing the Nats shut down Strasburg last year and half-assed the last month of the season and the playoffs. I mean, it's way more important to shut down a healthy Strasburg last year so you have a healthy Strasburg all this year and future years, because this team is going to be in the playoffs on an annual basis.

That idiocy aside, I can't imagine Strasburg thinks too highly of Nats management at this point. He couldn't have been more upset about the shutdown. And he looked really pissed yesterday. Only a matter of time before he's pitching for the Yankees.

I think a logical step forward for baseball would be hiring managers who actually know what they're doing. Managers shouldn't have to be ex-players. If you can analyze statistics and risk, you're automatically more qualified than Dusty Baker or Fredi Gonzalez or Matt Matheny or Walt Weiss or the moronic Kirk Gibson.

Fan assaulted at Orioles game over cap. Not a Seinfeld episode on opposite day:

There's a lot more to managing a baseball team than statistical analysis. Some of it even involves having a little knowledge of the game and knowing how to endure (or help your players endure) the grind of a 162-game season.
