Sinatra asking Gehrig for an autograph in '39, according to @beschlossDC

Gehrig knew that either his brains or his signature would be on that paper.

Starting to look more and more like Lincecum is headed toward an Eck-esque career change. According to this report, the only thing keeping him in the rotation is the Giants' lack of any other option.

Giants had him available out of bullpen both Saturday and Sunday although they didn't use him. Maybe that's the answer, although his first-inning ERA is 6.55 this year after it was 7.64 last year.

After watching the last year and a half, I just don't see how he puts it back together as a starter.

Supposedly the Dodgers have called up Yasiel Puig. People on the Dodgers Facebook page have been calling for this based on his performance in totally meaningless games in spring training against guys that are probably in AA right now.

I'm on the fence about this kid, but anything that gets Skip Schumaker out of the lineup while Kemp is hurt is okay with me.

I'm at a loss what to think, to be honest. Look, I know bad umpiring has always been part of the game, but it just seems like there IS some sort of a conspiracy going on. I know if this continues, with all of these rotten calls, someone's going to demand action. It won't be Bud Selig, unfortunately.

I could see that happening, once Vogelsong gets off the DL. He seemed more effective during the postseason out of the pen, when all he was asked to do was rear back and fire. As we're seeing, the cupboard is a bit bare in the minors when it comes to MLB-ready starting pitching,

Like Buck said, not even the worst in their division.

You know how bad the Mets' staff is when Wheeler feels a little sore, comes to New York to get it looked at, and fans all over the tri-state area start thinking his career is over because it means the Mets' medical staff is examining at him.

Maybe not the worst, but damn are they shady. And really, that includes Davey, although obviously not part of the training staff.

Was it Strasburg's shoulder? Nope. It was just an oblique strain, says the team. Oh, wait a minute. Did we say oblique? The sort of injury that keeps pitchers out an average of a month of so? Nah, we meant a lat strain. Oh, and did we mention that it's only a grade 1 sprain, which means he's barely even hurt!! He'll probably not even miss any time.

    [goes on DL]

Oh, and Harper? Nah, no concussion. No other real injuries. He's fine. He'll be in my lineup tomorrow. Well, after seeing him limp around for four weeks, I've decided to let him play another couple games, see if he can work it out. Welp, he's still gimping around. I know he wants to play. He's a competitor. And I like that. We'll sit him today, maybe tomorrow, and he'll be good to go in a couple days. [30 days pass] Now that I think about it, I think we're gonna go ahead and throw him on the DL.

    [goes on DL]

Ramos? MEH. He's fine. Just a insignificant hamstring sprain. Probably Grade 1. He'll miss a day or two and be back. [rushes him back] Well, you saw it just like I did. Looks like he banged up his hamstring again. Probably won't miss more than a few days.

    [goes on DL]

Werth? Yeah, just a minor hammy issue. Probably just a Grade 1. Probably nothing at all. Hmmmm, well, it might be a stomach issue. He's been shitting and puking for two days. We think he's just dehydrated. We'll get him some Gatorade and he'll be back to performing below the value of his contract in no time!

    [goes on DL]

Espinosa? He's the best damn defensive second baseman I've ever seen. Yeah, I know he's only hitting .140, but he's just too valuable defensively. [takes him out for a day, watches Lombardozzi play 98% as good as Espinosa in the field] Well, we're going to stick with Espi until he comes out of it. I like to let my guys play themselves out of being untalented. It'll come. Well, duh!!! He can't hit because he broke his fucking wrist. The best thing for him is to keep him in the lineup. He'll be fine. And that labrum or whatever in his shoulder that's been torn for a year or so? Surgery is for pussies. He can tough it out!!!

[DL stint or permanent replacement coming soon]

Keith Law tweeted the following just two weeks ago: "If the "hot hand" exists in baseball, we should be able to see it in the data."

Please don't treat me like an idiot when I bring solid arguments to the table.

Erick Aybar leads off for the horrible Angels.

Aybar has three walks the entire season.

Can we just shitcan Scioscia? [/hoping a Scioscia crack can raise the echoes of BYH]
