Considering how badly the Phillies have been hosed by the umps the last few days, are we sure it wasn't a D-cell?

White Sox score 4 in top-14 for a 5-1 lead.

Mariners tie it up in bottom-14 when Seager hits a 2-out grand slam.

    5-5 going into the 15th.

Holy mother of God. Carlos Gonzalez just hit a ball that landed in Kentucky.
Three-run shot against the Reds (his second of the game), it came about six rows from leaving Great American Ballpark.

Couple of also-rans slugging it out against the dregs of each others' bullpen.

Iwakuma had another great start for the M's.

"Meanwhile, our guys ended an eight-game skid despite the worst umpiring I've ever seen." [/hawktalk]

A friend of mine asked me why Vin Scully works by himself.

I don't know why, I am glad he does though. The last thing I wanna hear is some moron, probably would be Steve Lyons, stepping on Vin every time he wants to speak.

That was 34 years ago under the leadership of Chuck Tanner, who last managed a game in 1988 and has been dead for two years. The game's changed a bit.

Maybe if you looked up some of Jim Leyland's Pirate teams, that might be a little closer to useful. He was very fond of having Jay Bell bunt from the No. 2 spot in the order, if I remember correctly.

    Marquis no-hitting the Dodgers.

Best pitcher in the game going tonight and no offense.

No, Dodgers have a couple of hits. Thank goodness ... between that and OT hockey, in no mood to remake the page.

Lat strain. They say. (Far enough from the actual arm that they can pretend it isn't panic time.)

325 career innings. Does he make the Prior Line (657)?

Understated the absurdity slightly: It was 5 in the 14th to break a 0-0 tie.

Which, according to Elias, makes it the first time in ML history that (a) a player hit a tying grand slam in extras, (b) a team scored at least five to tie a game in the 14th or later and (c) that each team got at least 5 after the game was 0-0 through nine.

Two crappy teams on a random Wednesday in June, three all-time major-league firsts.
