For my money the schadenfreude team of the year is the Angels. Every time they sign a free agent, they lose three games in the standings.

I've got a special place in my schadenfreude gland for the Nationals, driven by my fellow Cubs fans. There's a lot of them who are *really* into the idea of how awesome it is to lose a lot of games and tank and get high draft picks, because after seven to 10 years of losing like that you get to have a team like the Nationals who will no-doubt win the division 15 times in a row.

Worst fucking training staff in baseball. Mind boggling.

Stanford's Mark Appel goes #1 in draft to Astros. Last season he slid to #8 with Pirates, who offered $3.8 million. The slotted value at #1 this year is $7.8 million.

    So, yeah, that worked.

How do the Indians draft in the first round? Gingerly. They take redhead Clint Frazier at No. 5.

If he had been willing to sign for $3.8, he wouldn't have slid that far last year.

Seems to be going pretty much according to talent this year, no big underslot picks in the top 4 or 5.
