It's already happened. Venters, O'Flaherty and Beachy have had Tommy John in the last year. The Braves are pre-disastered, as it were.

I'm not sure that makes them safe.

I doubt they trade any of them any time soon, but I hope they don't go with a 6-man rotation. That usually isn't good for anybody unless it is a very temporary measure.

I also wonder if "consistent" gives Minor his due. He has been one of the best pitchers in the National League since the middle of last season.

Yeah, I nearly said earlier that if they trade someone, one of the other five will go down with an injury within two weeks.

If you read the AJC story, you can hear Gonzalez essentially saying the same thing, that they won't make a decision until they have to, in case one gets made for them. You can understand his reticence, given the recent history.

The big variable is whether they can re-sign Maholm. They ought to know by now whether he's going to be looking for money that they can't pay, given their limitations. If he is, they might as well monetize that asset. Medlen's too good to throw in the bullpen just because he's done it before.

Alex Cobb has thrown 30 pitches, not gotten an out and trails 5-0.

Red Sox with 6 hits, 5 runs and wrath in their hearts.

I loved the video of Sandy Koufax signing for kids before the game. Some grandfather telling his grandkids, "Go over and get #32 to sign a baseball for you." Like some eight-year-old kid knows who Koufax is.

I heard the Dodgers offered him $12 million a year to unretire.

Still a better buy than Beckett.

    Or Zito.

    Or Lincecum.

Apparently Beckett was having some numbness in his hands and he said "I didn't know if I'd ever pitch again."

I was kinda happy when I heard that, who needs a guy who can throw 100+ pitches in four innings? Pay him to go away.

You've been a Giants fan for a couple seasons?

Probably a 49ers fan also? Wait til your boys get blasted in the face by Seattle.
