Harvey and Wheeler starting in a day-night doubleheader next week in Atlanta?

    That could be interesting.

One of those games (not sure which) is going to be Beachy's return. They'll probably be thankful for the extra air circulation created by all the strikeouts.

Jesus. That could be one hell of a day of baseball. But it's in Atlanta. Will anyone show up?

Also, Wheeler's from the Atlanta area. The Braves were all set to draft him with their No. 1 pick in 2009 (No. 7 overall), but the Giants snatched him with the pick right before and Atlanta "got stuck" with Mike Minor.

Difficult to show up for the entirety of a day-night doubleheader.

Gerrit Cole making his debut tonight for the Pirates, who are at 11 over .500 and setting fans up for a third consecutive collapse.

OK, maybe I'm just a little jaded. Twenty years will do that.

Maddon did a great job last night keeping Alex Cobb in the game after that awful 1st inning in which he gave up 7 hits and 6 earned runs -- before getting an out. But he "escaped" by getting 3 outs on 2 pitches then didn't give up much more for the next 3 innings. Great confidence boost for a kid, and great coaching.

And, slowly the Rays turned -- Niagara Falls! -- but they crept back into it and finally forced extras. Didn't watch past the 9th but it was a fun game to watch.

Not that easy to homer in any FSL stadium, even The Jack, which is, yes, the only non-Spring Training stadium in the league. Was down there last month for four or five games and I think I saw one homer in a week.

On the other hand, the only other 4-HR game in FSL history happened at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona.

Matt Harvey, who never made the majors, did it in 2006.

Here's the full list of every professional player who has done it, courtesy of SABR: http://sabr.org/research/four-homers-one-game

It's happened a lot more than you think, thanks to tiny, old Class D fields in dry climates or at altitude in West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, etc. There have also been four 5-HR games and one legendary 8-HR game back in 1902 that still defies belief.

And let's not forget the legendary Gene Rye, who hit three homers in one inning for the Waco Cubs in 1930:
