I was shocked when John Gibbons was named one of the coaches for the AL all star team. Don't really believe he deserves it.

 

BTW rough day for Giants reliever George Kontos on Wednesday:

--He gets suspended three games for hitting Andrew McCutchen on Tuesday night.
--He gets sent to the minors.
--Because he is the kind of pitcher who is typically summoned to the majors for emergency bullpen help and sticks around only as long as it's convenient for the team, that three-game suspension is going to make it very difficult for the Giants to bring him back to the majors, at least anytime before the September roster expansion.
--And ... Wednesday was his birthday!

 

Like playoff umpires, it's rarely merit-based. They just rotate in guys who have never done it or are buddies with the All-Star manager.

 

It all evened out just now, when you gave George Kontos the first written mention in his career.
