    That was painful to watch.

In general, it seems like if a minor league teams wins a league championship they've done something wrong. If the players and coaches are doing their job early in the year, they'll have a ton of promotions and the team sucks in the second half. If the guys do well in the second half, they'll get promoted toward the end of the year.
Minor league baseball is weird that way. So many guys come and go that you never really get attached to a particular year's team. For many people, I think it's more entertainment than sports -- do we go to a movie or a ballgame?

Bud Selig suffered a badly bruised ego in 2002. He's never been the same since.

Some other significant All-Star Game injuries, via Jayson Stark on Twitter:

    • Dizzy Dean, 1937 (broken toe from line drive; altered delivery ultimately caused career-ending arm injury)
    • Ted Williams, 1950 (broken elbow running into wall; was out til mid-September)
    • Harmon Killebrew, 1968 (torn hamstring stretching for throw at first base; was out til early September)

J.G. Taylor Spink award finalists -- Furman Bisher, Roger Angell and Melvin Durslag

Considering how Atlantian the ceremony is probably going to be, the late, great Bisher is probably the favorite.

Kinda surprised Bisher isn't in already, considering how long he lived.

And Angell certainly deserves it. His New Yorker pieces in the 60s and 70s were outstanding.

Gotta say it was awesome seeing a guy from my area in the game, even if it was just for one at-bat.

Looks like Mariano Rivera will pitch the bottom of the 8th, to guard against someone else blowing the lead and Rivera not getting into the game.

Can't believe the Yankee fans in the crowd aren't showering Neil Diamond with garbage right now.

    I'm sorry, but really?

I have no dog in the hunt, but this thing is a contrived joke.

They should have let Pedro Gomez translate that Taco Bell Cantina Double Steak Quesadilla commercial.
