    I couldn't care less.

If Rivera wore any uniform other than the one he wore, he would be celebrated maybe a quarter of what is going on now.

Rivera may have been the classiest player in the game last year, but that is no indication that he's classy this year.

I think maybe the classy thing to do is not to make a huge deal of retirement. Instead of doing the whole "look at me, it's my last season, give me shit", just retire.

Did you read the Times story about Rivera meeting with fans at every visiting park the Yankees go to this year? That's not exactly "Give me shit."

I don't think that applies to Mariano Rivera.

The only thing I wonder about with the Rivera retirement tour is whether he is actually going to retire. He certainly isn't pitching like somebody who shouldn't be in the major leagues in 2014. When Kareem or Dr. J or even Ray Lewis did it, you could tell it was time.

How did the low-A Dayton Dragons (Midwest League) land in the top 10? I mean, if I'm correct, the only non-AAA team in the whole top 20 is Texas's AA affiliate in Frisco. I love the Midwest League. Been to about four teams' home parks (Wisconsin, W. Mich., Lansing and Great Lakes), might visit a fifth later this summer if we end up in Beloit.

Was wondering that myself, so I Googled it. Turns out, Dayton's sold out something like 950 consecutive home games, the longest streak in professional sports. Magic Johnson and Archie Griffin are part-owners.

Here's a feature from Cincinnati magazine:

Sorry about your grandmother. I know that is a tough deal. I hope they are making her as comfortable as possible.

Had he won five World Series rings, been a 13-time All-Star and the all-time saves leader for the Dodgers, you wouldn't be saying this.

He hasn't made that big a deal. Others are making a big deal for him. From what quite a few have said, he would be perfectly happy to leave with little fanfare.

Yeah, I think if it had been up to Rivera, he'd have just pitched this year (or last, before the injury) and then quietly announced his retirement after the season.

The problem is, every time he was interviewed from about 2010 until this past spring, someone asked him "WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA RETIRE?" and he eventually gave in.
