Thanks to a regular here at SJ, I get to go watch the worst team in MLB play at home on Tuesday. During my ONE week of vacation this year. I could not BE more excited.

Trade deadline action starting to heat up. Looks like the Rangers are on the verge of acquiring Matt Garza from the Cubs:

Also, the Pirates are interested in getting Alex Rios from the White Sox, and perhaps Alexei Ramirez as well:

Anything that makes the White Sox (16 remaining games with DET) weaker and/or make Hawk cry gets a thumbs-up from me.

The White Sox are long overdue for a fire sale. The system has been devoid of talent for years, and it's catching up to them. I know I'm not breaking any new ground pointing this out, but not everyone realizes it. And that includes the team's play-by-play man, who spent last summer taking egregious shots at Baseball America because Nate Jones had a good year in the bullpen.

No outrage on my part. Back then, there were a lot of people bashing the sport. All I could think was "Really? You're bashing baseball because the All-Star Game ended in a tie?"

There were a lot of people who heaped scorn on baseball fans back then for sticking with the game. Then came those 2003 playoffs and everyone jumped on the bandwagon again. I remember the SI Preview for 2004 saying "Baseball's Back!" and I thought "Funny, the game never left, where have you been?" :)

I was wondering if Pittsburgh might try for Justin Morneau, or if his concussion history might scare them off. Might not be a bad rental.

Eh, wouldn't be a bad gamble for two months. Morneau has always raked at Yankee Stadium, so New York's a possibility too.

Dead arm syndrome might be a problem....

The Marlins won't have to look back in the standings, there's nobody gaining on them.
