Great pitchers' duel going on in DC. Heading to the bottom of the eighth, and the Pirates and Nats have combined for three hits.
Strasburg has a two-hitter -- one of them was a solo homer by Pedro Alvarez -- no walks and 12 strikeouts through eight, but is losing and about to be lifted for a pinch-hitter. Francisco Liriano (7 IP, 3 walks, 1 hit, 7 strikeouts so far) has matched him.

And between them they have enough ligament left for one good arm!

It will be interesting to see how Pittsburgh handles the ninth, if they are still leading.

I'll trade you Joakim Soria for McCutchen straight up.

I was surprised KRod was dealt before we could see what the new Pittsburgh closer would do, but the Pirates have a lot of possible young arms who could close.

    Would the Nats trade Clippard?

Tim Hudson evidently being stretchered off in NY. Sounds like a pretty bad looking Achilles injury.

Eric Young stepped on him as he covered first base. Looks really bad.

Get the utensils out; the World Champion Giants are crispy now. Thanks for coming, don't forget to tip your server on your way out. Hard to believe that starting pitching was the downfall.

It'll be hard to see Timmy in a Dodgers/Yankees/Mariners uni but a little easier when he's sporting his 4.50 ERA. (Don't get me wrong, I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Timmy.)
