Yeah, not really. The more nefarious rumor about Pujols has always been that he's 3 or 4 years older than he's listed. The way he's breaking down so quickly, maybe there's something to it.

He's the only elite-level MLB player to never use PEDs. We're not even supposed to discuss the possibility he might have used.

"Moderately arguing"? do you know what he said? Maybe he called the umpire a mother fucker in a moderately calm voice. I seriously doubt he was looking to eject a player at that point. And if you think one ejection several weeks ago factors into today, you just don't get it.

And why is it that you get it?

These paragons of virtue don't hold grudges?

In the postgame presser, Cabrera told media he thought the call was horrible. Fairchild said "You think I'm horrible?" and tossed him.

Matt, the problem is some umpires DO hold grudges. Apparently Fairchild does for some reason. He's had six ejections alone in July. That tells me he's got issues.

But Bud Selig just sits on his ass and does nothing. Look, there are a lot of umpires with good performance records. Then there are the smug asses like CB Bucknor, Sam Holbrook, Joe West, Angel Hernandez, Hunter Wendelstedt, etc. that give the game a black eye.

No, I don't think they do hold grudges. Every pitch of every game is reviewed and if they held grudges it would become obvious. And how would an ejection of another player two weeks ago cause a grudge today? Makes no sense.

How does anyone know that the player wasn't holding a grudge for the incident two weeks ago?

There are only four people on the field who don't care who wins. Everyone else is biased.

The point I was making is there is no way to say Cabrera was right or Fairchild was right without knowing what was said. Everyone is saying you can't eject a player because he didn't show the umpire up. He doesn't have to show him up. His words were enough.

Talk to some retired officials or just read some of their books and tell us again how they don't hold grudges.

This is interesting: Tino Martinez resigns as hitting coach of the Marlins after player complaints of verbal abuse and intimidation.

Haven't really followed the Marlins, so maybe someone else has some insight on this. I never knew Martinez to be this vocal and/or temperamental during his playing days, so it kind of surprises me. Another nugget is that Martinez was handpicked by owner Jeffrey Loria to be on the coaching staff, although he didn't have any MLB coaching experience.

D_B from earlier in the thread, but yeah, Martinez was almost universally loved by teammates and opponents alike during his playing days. Then again, working for the Marlins can test any man's resolve.
