The sight that summed up the Phillies today was, after Philadelphia's third error of the eight-run sixth inning, Jimmy Rollins squatting next to second base with his hands on his head for a long moment. The body language was just screaming "someone get me out of here."

Inquirer beat writer said that Rollins told him on the plane home he wouldn't waive his no-trade.

"Did you call me a cocksucker?"

"I said it was a cocksucking call. You can't run me for that."

Interesting SportsCenter video featurette (6:44 in length) on how the NL might have adopted the DH in 1980 had Phillies owner Ruly Carpenter not gone fishing that day:

I don't want to turn this into an SJ classic 15-page argument. Honestly, I don't care about the game anymore. Trust me. But because I'm not quite ready for bed yet and minutiae like this fascinates me, I went to http://portal.closecallsports.com/historical-data/2013-mlb-ejection-list, which is a list of all 105 ejections in Major League Baseball this season.

First off, let's throw out manager ejections, of which there have been 50 (not counting today's events), and coach ejections of which there have been 10:

Of the 45 remaining player ejections,

3 were for a perceived missed call on the bases
6 were for throwing at a batter intentionally
    6 were for fights
1 was for a pitcher arguing balls and strikes
1 was for a pitcher arguing a balk
1 was for a pitcher arguing against a HBP call
1 was for a batter arguing the pitcher's intent
1 was for a catcher arguing balls and strikes
1 was for a batter arguing for a HBP call
1 was for a batter arguing the refusal of a request for timeout

Cliff Pennington, B.J. Upton (x2), Cody Ross, Ryan Braun, Bryce Harper (x2), Edwin Encarnacion, Kurt Suzuki, Brett Lawrie, Kevin Frandsen, Billy Butler (x2), Jhonny Peralta, Lance Berkman, Mike Carp, Jose Bautista, Elvis Andrus, Manny Machado, John Buck, Gerald Laird, Brett Gardner, Jayson Werth and David Ortiz...

...a total of 25 (I think), have been batters ejected for arguing balls and strikes or a judgement call at the plate (check swings, foul balls, etc.) I believe Cabrera's is the first ejection of a batter in the middle of a count all season.

(Like I said, I promise I'm not trying to be argumentative unnecessarily, I just needed something to do to wind down for the night.)

Ralph Nader Petitions Mariano Rivera for One More Year:

Had no idea that Nadar was a passionate baseball, let alone Yankee, fan.

If Fairchild keeps making shitty calls, and running players who complain about them, somebody should just kill the motherfucker.

Turned out it was an old-fashioned bar fight. Why Scheppers made up his story, I dunno. Probably embarrassed he got his ass kicked.
