I just wonder how much it would hurt pitchers to throw 15-20 more pitches. He was yanked after throwing 107 pitches.

I know they are pretty much out of it and want to protect him, but a pitcher who is throwing that well has a much better chance of getting the win if he can pitch that eighth inning.

In person? Verlander's no-hitter over the Brewers, although as UPChip said, his game last year against the Pirates was just as good. Anibal Sanchez striking out 17 Pirates in eight innings was pretty impressive, as well.

2001 World Series Game 7...when Randy Johnson came in, I thought the stadium was going to collapse.

    No.

But that's not what you asked.

Dodgers beat Cubs again, 10 over .500 (59-49) -- and they've won 12 in a row on the road.

They were 32-42 at one point.

Sensing a low GAS level from the Indians tonight. Ubaldo has given up seven hits and five runs (two earned) and the Tribe has more errors than hits at the moment against the Cut-Rate All-Stars on South Beach.

Cards lose 7 straight, including first 4 of 5-game set at Pittsburgh.

    Then they win 13-0 yesterday.

    Now they're up 9-0 at Cincy, 4th inning, so they're on a 22-0 run.

This is Davis' 40th. Harang might want to just retire now.

They've been lights out for the last month.

I haven't seen anyone hitting the ball as hard as Hanley Ramirez has been. He's nails.

It's the little things that make baseball the best.

On a night the Cardinals hump Reds pitching, a night that Daniel Freakin' Descalso hits 2 home runs (4 and 5 of the season) for the first time in his career, a night that Reds pitchers suck sweaty-ass donkey balls, matching a season high with 8 walks, a night when the Cardinals are winning 13-3, this happens ...

Top-9 and J.J. Hoover is the 6th Reds pitcher to take the mound. The previous 5 Reds pitchers have 10 strikeouts -- the only good thing about their performance -- but Hoover needs to record at least one more K so that everyone in the stadium gets free pizza; I guess it's an 11-strikeout-at-home promotion.

Hoover walks the first batter on 4 pitches and Reds fans grumble.

Hoover throws a first-pitch strike to the next batter, light applause. Then comes strike 2 and the clapping intensifies. A few pitches later Hoover drops Uncle Charlie for the called strike 3 and the stadium gets pretty damn excited -- free pizza in Cincinnati!

You could smell it as it was happening. On one hand you wanted to see Hoover fuck up and not get that 11th K. On the other hand it was fun to see the response when it happened. Such a great game.

Reds about to lose by 10 but they get to see a fireworks show after the game -- to the music of ... Jerry Garcia.

    Baseball.

Best pitching performance I ever saw live:

Both starters didn't allow a run through 10. I was sitting about 20 feet from where Buck Martinez's 12th-inning walk-off homer landed in the left-field bleachers.

But it was against a pretty shitty Twins lineup.
