1994 and '95 were the last two seasons during his run of four consecutive Cy Young Awards, though clearly it was a gift the two previous seasons with a 2.18 ERA in '92 and 2.36 in '93. What a slacker. ;D

Seriously, it's even more impressive when you consider those were part of a stretch of seven consecutive seasons during which he had an ERA of 2.72 or better. He kept it under 3 for a full season nine times in his career. He easily could have won more Cy Young Awards. I still thought he deserved it in '98, when he finished fourth despite having the lowest ERA in the league at 2.22. That was the year Tom Glavine won it because he won 20 games, though with a higher ERA (2.47). Given that they were teammates, it's not like you had to consider ballpark factor.

I bet Glavine had more Devilishly Good Starts.

Oh, I absolutely admit to that. The Tigers haven't played the Angels well at just about any point in the Scioscia era, one of the great head-scratchers of the season.

The Angels swept both three-game series and faced neither Verlander nor Scherzer either time.

In 1994, Maddux had 13 dominant starts in 25 outings. 24 of 25 were quality starts

In 1991, Glavine had 13 as well.

BR won't let me loom quickly at their entire careers.

I assume you mean look, not loom.

And the reason BR won't let you look quickly at their entire careers is because nobody but you likes that made-up statistic of yours.

Oh, but they did get to see Rick Porcello and his legendary -3 game score, 2/3 inning outing on national TV.

I have DirecTV and don't have any of those worries and yet I'm still considering getting one of those HD over-the-air antennas. Nowadays each local affiliate has a .2 and .3 channel on their over-the-air signal, with one of them being full-time local weather. Plus, my local cable system is at war with the NBC affiliate and hasn't carried it for a month. So the cable company is sponsoring free antennas at Best Buy, and from what I read in the local paper, you don't have to prove you're a cable customer go get one.

Rangers +3.5 on Oakland and now 13-3 in the latest short-lived post-'roider era. #GroundZero
