How naive did you have to be to believe they were clean, that baseball was clean.

Personally? I never cared either way.

If you mean people in general, there seemed to be many, many people out there who were fooling themselves because I know most people don't take my view regarding PED accusations. (We really don't want to go there again, do we?)

The A's Nate Friemann put on a sliding clinic Monday night:

Exactly. And, for the record, nothing McGwire took was a banned substance at the time. So, technically, according to the rules in place by MLB at the time, he did not cheat.

Fans really don't care for the most part. The naïveté of the sports media never ceases to amaze me. You're right no sense in rehashing the proof debate but to be not be skeptical or even worse shocked when people test positive is what boggles my mind. I really don't get how the Roger Clemens piece in SI is written, I'm not saying writers should be accusing players without proof but they shouldn't be taken for a ride like they were either.

Verlander throws 45 (  ) pitches in the first inning against the A's.

It helps them to be playing the White Sox this week. A couple of bad teams doing battle in Chicago.

Today's milestone fun fact -- six players now have 2,000 hits, 400 homers and 250 steals: Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Alex Rodriguez, Andre Dawson, Gary Sheffield, and Alfonso Soriano.

Anyone who would keep McGwire out because of his batting average would be a bigger jackass than the so-called hypocrites who would keep him out for PEDs. You do realize his batting avg is slightly higher than Harmon Kellebrew's and Reggie Jackson's right? His on-base percentage also is higher.

Leave it to The Mets. On the night they hold Marlon Byrd T shirt night they
    trade Byrd to The Pirates.

Makes it an instant collector's item. Boom what do you think about Rex. Politi had a good article the other day about how the brashness is gone. He really isn't the same fat blowhard that he used to be.
